We always have fun crafting in our house and it’s even better when we have someone to make something for! My husband is not the easiest person to shop for and so I often rely on getting small little things, like treats and cards, for Father’s Day.
This year, we had a bunch of popsicle sticks in our house that needed to be used. I saw this recently at a kids crafting class in our neighborhood and decided to try it ourselves.
This is the perfect way to combine a card and treat in one for Dad! These Father’s Day Popsicle Stick Cards will leave him smiling. They roll up and can be filled with anything that fits-we put kisses in ours, but you could add candy bards, coupons, gift certificates, lip balm, etc. Even a key chain like this one!
Here’s what you need:
*7 Popsicle Sticks (found at any craft store)
*Hot Glue Gun
*Ribbon
*Markers, Stickers, Washi Tape
Directions:
To make these, lay out the 7 popsicle sticks evenly. Leave a small amount of space between each stick-you don’t want them right next to each other or they won’t roll up together well.
Measure out your ribbon. Add dabs of hot glue onto each stick until the ribbon is glued to each popsicle stick.
Flip the sticks over. Write a message on the top stick and then number the rest 1-5, leaving the final stick to say “Happy Father’s Day!” My kids are still learning to write so I asked them why they love their Daddy and then wrote them down. Have them color the sticks to their hearts desire!
We used these markers from American Crafts. They are some of my very favorites! They go on like paint and can be used on any color. Love my Galaxy Markers (they have normal and metallic!).
Once the coloring is done, you can add stickers and/or washi tape. I’ve mentioned before how much I love washi tape because it adds extra texture, color, and fun to your projects. I used a metallic tape from Scotch Expressions. It looks very manly and reflects things so it’s interactive too. My kids loved it.
This is how it looks when it is finished. There is no right or wrong way when it comes to decorating it!
When you are ready to roll it up, place your treat in the center and bring each end together with the ribbon. Tie the ribbon up and be careful to not let the treats fall out the sides.
This is how it should look rolled up. If your sticks are too close together, it won’t roll up well. When you first lay them out, be sure to have just a little give between them.
Don’t forgot to decorate the outside too.
This is what the inside looks like to give you an idea of the space. The metallic mirror washi tape really looks cool!
And a little wave goodbye from yours truly! Can you see me in the washi tape?
