Is your house filled with flossing kids and adults? If Fortnite is a part of your home, you can make this DIY Fortnite Floss Like A Boss Tshirt with some iron-on vinyl at home! And having a Cricut machine makes it even easier.
I’ll be honest here. Several months ago, when I first started seeing the Floss dance on the playground at school, I wondered how all those kids seemed to know the same dance. And where in the world did it come from? I asked both my boys if they knew what it was from and they mentioned a couple of words I had never heard before-something about floss and a fort at night… Hmm. It made no sense.
Eventually, with its popularity expanding, I figured out it was from a game. And just in time too! We were seeing the floss being performed at every baseball game from kids in the outfield to kids on base. Too funny!
Knowing I had a the ability to make t-shirts, my son asked if I could make him a Fortnite shirt. With my Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine, making anything with iron-on vinyl is a cinch.
I knew that Etsy would be a great place to find an image to use and I was right! Several sellers had fun images that came as png, jpg, or svg files (svg files are used with cutting machines). After scrolling through the options, I settled on this design.
After purchasing the image from Etsy, I opened up Cricut Design Space. I chose to upload the file as a png, though it came with the svg file as well. I sometimes prefer to work with png’s.
If you look at my shirt, you will notice the white behind the “Fortnite” title. I wanted to add more interest to the image and, because I was using a gray tshirt, I knew I could add another color to highlight it.
In Design Space, after uploading the png file, I created the background by adding a square from the shapes option. In the bottom left corner, click the lock to unlock the sizing so you can make it a rectangle. I also changed the color to white because that was the color of iron-on I would be using.
Stretch it out so that it fits within in the area. The letters were not all the same size so I needed to make more than one square and then merge them.
Once the three shapes were made and fit in the area I need them to, I right clicked on each layer over in the layers area on the right,
Click “weld” at the bottom of the layers area to join them all together. Then move the white section to the bottom of the layers so you can be sure it all fits just the way you need it.
Click “make it” if it all looks good and then check the mats before you cut. And be sure to click on the “mirror image” button. With iron-on, it always needs to be mirror image. Load your vinyl (I used the basic black and white iron-on from this pack). Let the machine cut it out and then weed the image.
Follow the directions for the iron-on vinyl that you chose. If you have an Easy-Press, it makes the process even easier. You will need to place the white down first, because it’s layered, and then add the black.
I found the gray youth shirt at Michaels but they have them everywhere, including at Amazon.
This would be fun gift to give as a favor at a birthday party or to accompany an X-box, or, like my son, to wear whenever you feel like flossing! Which in our house is constant. And once you have the image, you can use it to make as many t-shirts as you want! It would make a fun Christmas card setup.
