It’s always a treat to give young women something new and different to do when working on Personal Progress. Give them this Crossword Puzzle and Word Search that goes along with Faith Experience #1 as a fun way to complete their work. It’s also the perfect activity to do for General Conference. Be sure to check back for more puzzles and searches coming soon!
This year, I was a little ambitious and signed up to be room mom for both of my kids’ classes at school. About a month later, I was hired to work at their school and suddenly I found myself overextended a bit! It’s been a learning experience for sure but I wouldn’t trade it. One of the things I’ve learned from being involved in education is how much kids love working on puzzles. It reminded me how much I still love them!
While planning our Valentine’s parties this year, and downloading some puzzles for our classrooms, I decided to create some puzzles for young women and Personal Progress. And why not? Primary kids have fun puzzles and activities to do for general conference so why can’t the young women?
They really are so fun to make! I started creating them and found I couldn’t stop. And rather than do just one for each value, I decided to do them for individual experiences. Then, they can be used as a starting point for the girls while working on individual experiences. It doesn’t work for all of them, but I have several finished and others nearing completion. It’s a new way to do Personal Progress!
I’m sharing the very first one for now which is for Faith Experience #1. The words all come from the scriptures and the instructions in the Personal Progress Book. The same is true for the word search. There are also journal pages included for them to write their thoughts which is a required aspect of the experience. They also need to find two conference talks on faith which makes these puzzles perfect for completing during General Conference! There are usually at least two talks centered around faith each conference so the girls won’t have to go searching on their own, they just need to listen!
And I know it isn’t always easy to do an activity centered around Personal Progress and these worksheets would be perfect for printing for a chill night with the girls. Just have them come in pajamas, bring their scriptures, have some snacks and treats, and work on these puzzles together!
If it were me, I’d have a little prize for them for completing the worksheets. Otherwise you pass things out and never hear about them again. Prizes are always good motivation for kids of any age and they don’t need to be big. I usually have something small for completing some of it and then a larger prize for completing all of it. And then the main goal is to finish the experience itself and get it passed off. I know many wards like to have prize buckets with items for each value in that value color. And if you only have a couple of girls finish it the first time, and you make a big deal out of it while giving them their rewards, no matter how large or small, the attention they receive will motivate other girls to do it next time so they can get the same attention!
If you have any ideas or thoughts for personal progress, please share! I know so many people who have ideas but just don’t know how to put it together. I’d love to help you! I’m also including the key as a download in case you run into any questions. The answers are pretty easy to figure out if you use the scriptures as a reference.
I hope you and your girls enjoy!
