I LOVE Valentine’s Day and I couldn’t help but start decorating for it this week. The stores are full of cute things, including the Dollar Spot at Target. I snagged these super cute doilies there and decided to create a fun banner to hang in our living room to celebrate. The doilies are X’s and O’s, with the heart acting the part of the “O”. It turned out really cute and was a cinch to make!
Here’s what you need to make this:
Red Heart Doilies
White Circle Doilies
String or Twine
Stapler
First, to make the X’s, grab one round doilie and cinch it up in the middle. Grab another and do the same. Put the two pieces together and wrap with pink twine (also from the dollar spot), to keep them together. You could also use tape or staple them, but I liked the twine. I snagged these doilies in the dollar spot at Target.
(Side note: I cannot go to Target and only get what I needed. I always end up leaving with more stuff! And the dollar spot is definitely my weakness! Am I the only one?)
Next, thread the X’s through some yarn or twine, beginning with and “X” and ending with an “O”. The “O” is the heart doilie and you don’t need to anything to it. Easy peasy! You can make it as long or as short as you need-the packet of doilies comes with 24 so you could get 12 “X”s from one package.
I used this yummy red craft yarn twine to thread through my X’s and O’s. I love the vibrancy of the red! It was plenty long enough too.
I ended up doing 4 sets of the XO, so 8 letters total. We didn’t have much space and it fit perfectly!
I have some more fun Valentine’s Day crafts coming up next week!
