This year, we weren’t planning on doing a birthday party for our youngest. He’s still a toddler and hasn’t had a chance to get out and make a lot of friends yet, and my husband isn’t a fan of hosting parties. But, I found out that Big Hero 6 was coming out the week of his birthday and I couldn’t resist. When we saw it in theaters, it immediately became his favorite.
I decided it would be fun to invite family over, including his cousins, to watch the movie and to enjoy the company. Our house is a little small, so we asked to have it at a family members home. This is a great tip when you are planning any party-if you don’t have the space, find another option!
I admittedly was a little short on time for this party when compared to others. I had some conferences earlier in the month, we had a family member pass away a week before, and I had some other deadlines for projects that week.
The invitations were simple and I actually printed them out myself. Have I mentioned before how much I love printing at home? The invitation is a free download that you will find at the end of this post. If you would like to use the same font, it’s called DigitalStrip. I’m also including a layered PSD template with the text boxes as layers. This will make it easier for you to create the same effect for the name if you would like to do that. All you will need to do is open the file and type in the name and add your details. Save it as a jpg or pdf…it really is that simple.
I recently purchased a photo backdrop to start using for parties. It makes it so easy to create the perfect party backdrop for a food table, and this was my first time using it. All I did was use red plastic table covers and a banner I created. It looked fantastic and I received many compliments on it.
If you would like to use the banner, I’m including it as well. It’s sized to 2 ft x 6 ft. I uploaded it to Walgreens and they had it printed in an hour! They usually have coupons, which I used, so the banner ended up being around $15. After the party, we hung it up in the boys’ toy room for a couple more weeks. My little man loved it!
I also created some fun “posters” that I put in frames and decorated the space with. I used my frames from Ikea which are sized to 8.5″x11″. We still have these up in their room and toy room too. I also had these printed at Walgreens.
And finally, I used some little things to add touches to the balloons and cake. Because my week was so crazy, I did not have time to make a cake. Instead, I bought a made from scratch chocolate cake at our local grocery store. They added my son’s name for free which I appreciated! When I got home, I added some little graphics I had printed off to black and white straws and inserted them into the cake. I found the clipart for the cupcake toppers on Etsy (it included the numbers too!).
For the balloons, I cut out some Baymax faces and taped them on. I also shrunk the faces down and taped them to the red paper cups we used.
I bought the rest of our decorations and partyware from Birthday Express. They have some great new Big Hero 6 items:
