The other day, I was strolling (okay, more like rushing because I had the kiddos with me!), and happened upon these little beauties:
Chocolate Mint Marshmellows! I couldn’t resist-chocolate and mint are my favorite combination. I decided then that I wanted to try combining them with another rice crispie recipe from The Pioneer Woman called “Nutella Rice Krispie Treats”. The combination is delicious! I’m sorry my pictures aren’t very pretty. I honestly kind of hacked into it because I couldn’t wait and the lighting in our kitchen was bad because the sun had gone down already. Anyway, it’s super easy and a fun, chocolately, with a hint of mint new way to enjoy my favorite cereal, Cocoa Krispies.
First, the cast of characters:
Ingredients:
6 Tbs Salted Butter
8 oz bag Chocolate Mint Marshmellows
2 oz Mini Marshmellows
1/3 cup Nutella
1/8 tsp Salt
6 cups Cocoa Krispies Cereal
Mallow Bits
Mini Marshmellows
Sprinkles
6 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate or Chocolate Chips
Step 1: Melt 4 Tbsp of the butter in over medium-low heat.
Step 2: Once it’s melted, add the chocolate mint and the 2 oz of mini marshmellows to the pan along with the salt.
Step 3: Halfway through the melting process, add the Nutella. Continue stirring and melting until smooth.
Step 4: Add the remaining 2 Tbsp butter to the mixture and stir and melt until smooth.
Step 5: Add Cocoa Krispies to large bowl.
Step 6: Once the Nutella/Mallow mixture is smooth, immediately add to the bowl with Cocoa Krispies and combine.
Step 7: Add in sprinkles, mallow bits, and additional mini mallows to the mixture to taste. The sprinkles I used were green with little white snowflakes I found at Target in the dollar section.
Step 8: Immediately press into well greased 13×9″ pan to set.
Step 9: Melt semi-sweet chocolate and drizzle over treats. Add additional sprinkles to taste.
Voila! Super easy. I wish I’d been able to make the chocolate on top look more pretty (it’s pretty much blobs instead of drizzles) or press them down a little better, but I had a grumpy toddler and a very hungry 9 month old pulling on my leg. Priorities 🙂 The mint from the marshmellows is subtle but adds an extra layer of flavor, along with the Nutella, that’s extra good.
