Today I’m SO excited to be at SNAP Conference in Salt Lake City surrounded by 500 other talented crafty bloggers learning, creating, and celebrating the friendships we’ve made because of blogging! And to celebrate with you, I teamed up with Abbey from The Cards We Drew and a large group of bloggers to create Crafts in a SNAP {15 Minute Craft Ideas} so that ANYONE, whether beginner or seasoned pro, can learn to create fun and handmade items in no time at all! Check out my tutorial for {fill in here} coming up, then scroll down below and be sure to check out some of what my blogging friends have to offer!! Have fun and get creative!
My craft today is an easy DIY Outdoor Placemat. I found some beautiful sky blue placemats at the dollar store (Dollar Tree), and snagged them up with plans to dress them a bit.
You will need:
*Placemats (mine are made of neoprene)
*Acrylic Paint
*Sponge brushes
*Stencil
The stencil I used is an Americana stencil that I found at Michaels. It’s been versatile and I love that it resembles “Starry, Starry Night” by Picasso a little bit too.
All you need to do for this is place the stencil where you would like it to be. The stencil didn’t cover the placemat completely so I did need to line it up once I had the first side done. I had two colors of paint-a cream and a mint. I had no method to where I placed the paint. I just threw the color on wherever I wanted it to go! To add the paint, rather than use strokes, dot the paint where you would like it while holding the stencil down.
Be careful when you move the stencil so that you don’t get paint for underneath on the outside of your mate or elsewhere. It’s best to let the first part dry a little and then move the stencil over to line it up and finish what you started.
And that’s it! Easy peasy. You can do this with as many placemats as you need! And always remember-if you see something at the dollar store, snag it because usually, once it’s gone, it’s gone!
