An easy recipe for Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies made with cake mix and instant pudding!
If you’ve been in the grocery store recently, you might have noticed a new item in the produce section that is now in season: cherries! I didn’t used to like cherries but the flavor has grown on me over the years and now I love them. They are my favorite part of an ice cream sundae!
The first recipe I remember loving that had cherries in it was a custard flavor at the custard stand I worked at when I was a teenager (custard is more creamy than ice cream and very addictive!). After working there for about a year, I had a hard time eating custard anymore. When you get it for free 4 days a week, it’s not hard to do.
BUT, there was one flavor that I always loved. In addition to the chocolate and vanilla flavors we had daily, we had a third flavor that changed and was called our “flavor of the day”. One of those we called Cherry Chocolate Chip and I LOVED it! It was the one flavor I could eat no matter what.
Unfortunately, that flavor isn’t sold in grocery stores and the custard stand, while it’s still open, is far away from us. A couple of weeks ago, I decided it would be fun to turn my favorite custard flavor into a cookie and that’s how these Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies were born.
These cookies are so easy because they use a cake mix and instant pudding mix. For my recipe, I used the Cherry Chip cake mix from Betty Crocker and the white chocolate instant pudding by Jello. If you can’t find those flavors, you can use a white cake mix and a vanilla instant pudding.
Be sure to use the smaller box for the pudding because it comes in two sizes!
You will also need a jar of Maraschino Cherries. I’m not sure how real cherries would do-they might not be as sweet.
You can also use milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips. I prefer the flavor of semi-sweet chocolate chips so that’s what I usually use. But I know a lot of people who prefer milk chocolate. Just go with your gut and use what you love!
These cookies are soft and full of flavor. If you love cherries like me, these are the cookies for you! And you can literally whip up a batch in 20 minutes. They are perfect for a summer picnic!
Here’s a video tutorial if you’re a visual person like I am from my Facebook page:
If you make these and become as addicted to them as we are, let me know! And stick around too because I have a few more cherry recipes coming up this month. Yum!
