Christmas is a time of baking and indulging on your sweet tooth! I admit, I’m more of a salty kind of a girl but when Christmas rolls around, my sweet tooth goes crazy! Our favorite kind of holiday baked goods are cookies because they are easy, delicious, and feed a crowd.
These cookies couldn’t be easier to make and they don’t involve a huge list of ingredients. Plus, you won’t be ready to tear your hair out when your kids “help” make them. They crinkle all on their own and are dusted in a layer of powdered sugar. And you can’t go wrong with Red Velvet and White mixed together. Ready for the ingredients?
One box white cake mix with 1/3 cup oil, 2 eggs, green food coloring (I used Wilton gel because it colors more vibrantly), and powdered sugar. For the second color, one box of red velvet cake mix, 1/3 cup oil, 2 eggs, and powdered sugar.
Mix both mixes separately. The batter will be really thick! If needed, add some extra oil in. Mine was a little dry and needed another 2 Tbs or so of it. When you mix the white cake mix, it was helpful to get my hands in and mix the food coloring into the batter.
Once they are mixed, grab a small ball of each and moosh them together. Roll into a nice ball and then drop into powdered sugar. Put on a parchment covered cookie sheet. Or you can use these cooking mats (they are my favorite!). Lightly flatten the cookies with the bottom of a glass.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, until lightly brown around the edges. Allow them to finish baking on the baking sheet until cooled.
The cookies crinkle all on their own and the mixture of flavors is so delicious! Package them up to give to neighbors and friends, or bring a plate of them to a family party and watch them get devoured!
I also love how affordable these babies are. With cake mixes on sale this time of year, I made these for about $3.00!!
