I remember being eight years old and coming home from school, eagerly grabbing the mail and filling with excitement when I saw that it had come. What is “it”, you ask? My American Girl catalog of course! I spent hours pouring through the pages, creating wish lists, birthday lists, and Christmas lists. My very first doll was Kirsten. She was my favorite. I remember the excitement I felt when I opened up her box on Christmas morning. My dream come true! I loved the outfits, the accessories, and the books. I later also received Molly and the year that the American Girl of Today dolls came out, my best friend and I each got a doll that looked like us. I named mine Danny (short for Danielle) and hers was Sam (short for Samantha). We spent endless hours playing with our dolls. They were our little companions. And I still have them!
I have such fond memories of American Girl. They are such a great way to inspire girls and help them see the great things they are capable of doing. American Girl characters past and present show girls today that they can do great things if they believe in themselves and each other. From a Native American girl living in the Northwest in 1764 to a contemporary girl whose passions inspire action, the characters in every story illustrate the power of determination, imagination, courage, and hope—the same spirit that inspires modern American girls.
One lucky winner will receive an American Girl Doll & Book.
