The Big Game is coming up quick and we are getting excited! It’s always a fun time of year because the game happens on or near both my birthday and my brothers. Some years, the Big Game is played on the actual day and it’s fun to pretend the country is celebrating with me! This year, we are planning on celebrating with some real style because one of us is turning the big 3-0. What kind of style you ask? Most years, we put out a nice array of dips, snack foods, and sandwiches but skimp on the decor. But that isn’t happening this year! Thanks to RITZ® Crackers, Coke Zero, and a little DIY, we are going to have some fun decor and snacks to keep our game time fun really stylin’.
In addition to some fun store bought decor, I decided to make our drinks a little more exciting by making these DIY Football Glass Mason Jars. They came together quickly and are not permanent so I can reuse my jars for future events! Ready to see how I made them? Let’s kick it off!
Supplies you need:
Glass Mason Jars (found mine at the craft store)
Straw Lids for Mason Jars (optional)
Paint pen for glass (not permanent unless you want it)
Ribbon in colors of choice
Hot glue gun
Here’s a close up of the paint pen that I used. It’s used for multiple surfaces and is not permanent. There is glass paint available that can be set and made permanent. I didn’t want that because I would like to be able to reuse these glasses for other events in the future.
Follow directions for your paint pen. You have to shake it up pretty good and press it down on a piece of paper to get the paint down. Once it’s ready, draw your football styled pictures on your glasses. I did some with laces and others with football plays.
I also wrote on the sides with phrases like “Go Team!” (insert my favorite team here) and “Touchdown!”. The sky is the limit. You can also purchase other colored paint pens and really have some fun with your favorite team colors.
Next, I cut up strips of ribbon in my team colors and tied them around the handles of my glasses.
For an extra touch, I used my glue gun and wrapped some ribbon around the tops of the straw lids. The straw mason jar lids have holes in the top of them that hold the straw in place. They look a litte more fun than the glasses without their lids.
That’s all there is to it! You could even have your guests decorate their own glasses when they arrive. The paint dries pretty quickly and, because the paint isn’t permanent, you would still be able to reuse them once the game is over. Sweet, right?
Pouring the Coke Zero in the glasses brings out the paint even more. I really had fun with it, even though I clearly have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to writing out a football play! I just randomly drew X’s and O’s with some arrows. I’m still learning football language.
To host your own epic game day party, visit your local Walmart to pick up all of the necessities, and keep an eye out for this special Home Bowl 2016 RITZ® cracker display. We love serving RITZ® crackers with cheese and ranch dip. My kids always gobble them up quickly so I’m sure to grab an extra box just in case!
While you’re there be sure to pick up Coca-Cola 16,9 oz. 6-packs for the special price of 2 for $5 for a limited time. I found my soda in the middle aisle right next to the RITZ® cracker display.
