Music is a big part of our lives. My husband and his family have owned a music store for nearly 70 years and so it’s a part of our everyday lives! We know lyrics, artists, and melodies and my husband has a special ability to play music by ear and by heart. I guess you could say we breathe music in our family. One of our favorite things to do as a family is a vacation to the beaches in California. We don’t make it every year but it’s always worth the wait! There is nothing better than sitting outside, enjoying the sunset, and strumming the ukulele. We love taking our ukulele everywhere; it’s small, makes beautiful music, and it creates the perfect summer feel. And this summer, our trip was even more fun because we took the Share A Coke botttles with us! We’d pull a bottle out and see if any of us could sing or play it.
Here’s my husband enjoying the music while relaxing at sunset. I gave him a song from a Share A Coke bottle and, with that special gift of his, he was able to play it!
And my little sister showing off her skills! She did a great job playing the melodies from the lyrics I gave her by ear. It’s not an easy skill but she did it!

To keep my music and ukulele together while strumming on the beach (and to keep the sand away from it!), I made an inspirational music bag. Just like the lyrics on the bottles of Coca-Cola, I chose an inspirational quote to inspire me when I’m practicing. It says, “Music to the soul can be heard by the universe”. It’s beautiful, right? The download is available for to use at the bottom of the post!
Here’s how I made it. All you need is a tote bag large enough to fit your music supplies, a sheet of iron-on printable material, and an iron. That’s it! I picked up the iron-on transfer paper for dark colors. It ends up having a white background. If you want the edges and negative space to disappear and blend with your material, use the light fabric option.
Print your quote on the iron-on transfer paper. Be sure to follow the instructions. Some transfer material will have you mirror your image when you print it. This one did not. My quote used up the entire piece of paper because I wanted it to stand out.
Follow the instructions to iron your material onto your bag. It helps to go slowly when you’re doing it. And be sure to not have any steam!
That’s it! You’re finished. This tote was exactly what I needed for my playing on the beach. And it held my bottle of Coca-Cola too!
I love that I can use it for my piano books now that I’m home and my extra ukulele music.
