Make a costume for your favorite Toy Story fan! This DIY Sheriff Woody costume is easy for any skill level and uses things you can find at the Dollar Store!
This is another fun dress-up idea as part of my Dollar Store Dress Up series! This outfit was inspired by Sheriff Woody and includes a vest, hat, bandana, and belt. My boys have had a ton of fun in these already. My youngest never wants to take them off! The greatest part of these dress ups is that they literally cost less than $5 to make for all of it. You can add extra accessories to them like guns, holsters, and spurs that are also found at Dollar Tree.
You can find more fun cowboy tutorials, and some other fun DIY dress up ideas, by visiting my Dollar Store Dress Up Series Page. All tutorials and links will be in one place. If you would like to download all of the tutorials for each piece, the pdf will soon be available in my DIY Dress Up Ebook, coming later in March. It will feature new tutorials I haven’t shared before, including how to make Buzz Lightyear retractable wings! Be sure to sign up for my weekly newsletter so you don’t miss it!
Here are the supplies you’ll need to create your own Sheriff Woody dress-up.
Supplies:
1 Cow Print Vest from Dollar Tree
1 Brown Cowboy Hat from Dollar Tree
1 package shoe laces from Dollar Tree (you will use the white)
1 yard rope trim (I found mine at Joann’s)
1 brown bead (also from Joann’s)
1 Red Bandana from Dollar Tree
1 yard brown faux leather
1 square yellow felt
White Yarn
Hot glue
Black Iron On Vinyl
Velcro pieces, front and back
Vest Tutorial:
First up, here is the tutorial for the vest. The pieces in this tutorial were for my Cowboy and Cowgirl Princess outfits. But they were all done similarly. Ignore the parts about adding the trim. Sheriff Woody didn’t have any on his vest.
Cowboy Hat:
This tutorial works for any of the cowboy hats I made, each having its own variations. Sheriff Woody’s hat is actually the exact same as this one, except it is brown. This red hat came from my Jessie hat tutorial. The hat was based off of a hat we got at Disneyland a couple of years ago that cost about $25. I made this for around $1.50. It only took about 30 minutes to complete. These hats are going to be perfect for our Toy Story birthday parties too!
Cowboy Belt:
No cowboy outfit is complete without a belt and belt buckle. This was easy to put together and can be adjustable to fit different sized children. I didn’t feel it was necessary to buy a belt buckle for my kids. They lose things far too quickly and a belt buckle would be gone within a week! This belt is perfect for the dress up bin.
Cowboy Bandana:
I honestly get tired of having to tie things over and over again (and it happens a lot in our house!), so this made it easier for me. Instead of tying the bandana, I added velcro so all I have to do is clasp the ends together. It’s so easy that my boys could do it for each other too. Plus, it stays put!
That’s it! The entire outfit cost around $5 to make. It definitely fits into our budget, especially because I always need to have two of everything! Be sure to check out the other fun Dollar Store dress up ideas.
If you are planning on taking your kids to meet Woody and Buzz and Jessie in person, you need to plan your family vacation with Get Away Today. They are THE experts in all thing Disney, they have been doing it for 25 years, and can help you create the perfect vacation for you and your family. My favorite thing about them is that they have a great Layaway Plan.
You only have to put $125 down at the time of booking and then have until 2 weeks before you travel to complete the payments. It makes these vacations so doable! We are going to Disneyland in a few months and I cannot wait to watch the excitement on my boys’ faces when they meet them.
