If you have been following along on social media, you may have seen that we added a new member to our family this year! In all honesty, I didn’t think we would ever have a pet but my husband finally caved after years of begging on the part of my kids and I. We brought home our sweet kitty, Miss Princess Leia, over the summer and she has been such a blessing! I never grew up with cats and it’s been so fun to learn more about them.
Our kitty, “Missy” for short, loves to cuddle, play, and be the center of attention. She has been a gift to us and I can’t wait to share some gifts with her for the holidays! I whipped up a cute little no sew blanket that fits perfectly in her bed, is soft enough for any cat to love, and makes a great addition to a cat gift basket filled with things cats love, including Missy’s favorite, Purina Fancy Feast.
To make your own cat blanket, here’s what you need:
1/2 yard of fleece in one pattern
1/2 yard of fleece in another color or pattern
scissors
You can find fleece at any craft or fabric store and even some bigger retailers too. Find two patterns or colors that work well together and match your cat’s personality!
There are so many ways to tie fleece blankets and I have tried them all. I decided to do it this way because it was easier and cleaner. Because the blanket is smaller than a normal adult blanket, the dimensions are slightly different too.
First, cut your fleece in half. You don’t have to do this if you want your blanket to stay larger. I cut it in half so it would fit better inside her cat bed and it created two blankets, one for outside and one for in! Line up the two patterns back to back so the edges are even. If you need to trim anything, be sure to keep the two fabrics even. Cut a two inch square on each of the corners.
Cut 2 inch strips one inch apart all the way around the blanket (cutting both the front and back materials together).
Cut a 1/2 inch slit in the top middle of each strip. You can do this more easily by folding the strip at the top. Just be careful not to get the cut above the strip or make it too long.
Next, grab the bottom of the strip and pull it through the slit you made at the top. This will tie the edges together without have to make a knot. It’s actually much faster and easier than doing a knot.
That’s it! You’re done. I made our blankets while watching my favorite Christmas movie. It was a nice activity to enjoy.
Missy climbed right in her bed and cuddled up! The blanket is soft and sweet, just like she is. I also appreciate being able to throw the blanket into the wash when it gets dirty.
Missy loved her blanket. And it matches her personality with the pink and the cute paw prints. I have to admit, I loved being able to do girl colors for once. Bringing Missy into our home meant that I was no longer the only girl!
If you really want to make your cat happy, create a basket with all of their favorite goodies. Cats love their food and you can find it all at your local Kroger store. Our cat gets jealous when she watches us eat and it doesn’t seem fair to have her eating just any old cat food. Instead, we stocked up on some Fancy Feast Purely- a cat food made with REAL seafood, chicken or beef- no by products or fillers in this feast! Your cat will sure feel like part of the family! I know our Stella just could not get enough! If they cannot eat the Thanksgiving feast, Fancy Feast Purely is most certainly the next best thing.
I also added some extra fun treats like Friskies Party Mix, Purina Dentalife and Whisker Lickin′s because what holiday is complete without a little treat? These Purina treats are delicious for cats, and are the just the thing your cat will enjoy on a cool winter morning.
It’s easy to stock up on their favorites while grabbing things for the humans on your next grocery shopping trip. Kroger has just what you need for everyone in your family. And because saving money is just as important as convenience, we have a coupon for you!
