Family movie night has become a staple in our home. While we love going out, some days there is nothing better than cuddling up in warm pajamas on the couch together and watching a good movie. It’s especially true this time of year as January is usually the coldest month for us and we need some fun to beat the “winter blues”!
We never had the opportunity to see Sony Pictures’ “Hotel Transylvania 2” when it came out in theaters and my kids have been begging to watch it. They were so excited when I told them we were going to have a family movie night and watch it together because it came out on January 12! Growing up, movie nights always included snacks like popcorn and peanut M&M’s. My parents always were sure to grab treats when we rented our movies and I’ve carried that tradition on in our family. It was easy to pick up our movie snacks while I was getting my groceries at Walmart. Our line up of goodies included Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn, M&M’S® Chocolate Candies Peanut and Plain in cute little canisters (they can be found in the checkout lines), and a six pack of Coca-Cola.
To add some extra fun to our movie night, we invited over some of my kids’ cousins and made it a fun night with extended family. They adore their cousins and any excuse to get together is appreciated! Since we had more people coming over, I decided to do a fun treat that was quick, easy, and inexpensive that would feed several people. In honor of the cute little guy Dennis from the movie, I created this Orangilicious Popcorn with a cute printable wrapper to go along with our M&M’S® chocolate candies and Coca-Cola.
Here’s what you need to make it:
2 bags of Orville Redenbacher Movie Theater Popcorn
6 Tbsp of butter or margerine
3 cups mini marshmellows
3 Tbsp of Dry Orange Flavored Gelatin (Jello)
1 cup white chocolate chips or almond bark
1/3 cup orange juice
Pop your popcorn. I used two bags and the rest we used for the movie. The pop up bags are perfect!
Melt the butter or margerine on the stove. When it’s almost melted, add in the marshmellows. Be careful not to burn them!
When the marshmellows are melted, add in Orange gelatin mix. Mix well.
Remove any popcorn kernals in the popcorn. Pour the marshmellow mixture over the popcorn and mix until popcorn is covered.
In a microwave safe dish, melt white chocolate chips or almond bark with orange juice in the microwave. Pour over popcorn and mix well.
Scoop into nut containers or cupcake liners and wrap with the Dennis printable wrap! They can also be packaged up in cellophane bags and given out as treats.

They are really so cute! The kids loved them and some thought it looked like his hair, which is just what I wanted!
We all, including the adults, loved the movie! It made us giggle and laugh, we were able to snuggle and have fun together, and the movie is all about the love of family. I am a big fan of movies with a good message and this one definitely hit the spot. We loved snacking on our popcorn and the little containers of M&M’S® Chocolate Candies were the perfect thing to give to each one of the kids and the adults! Plus, we each had our own bottle of Coca-Cola. We had no fighting because everyone had their own. Now that’s what I call a successful evening!
