Social media is a great tool to share our testimonies and love of the Savior. Youth can do this social media challenge during conference and complete Personal Progress goals along the way!
Can you believe conference is almost here? It honestly kind of creeped up on me this time! But I’m excited and cannot wait to hear from our leaders and receive some much needed inspiration. I had an idea for the young women this time around that involved social media. This is a General Conference Personal Progress Social Media Challenge aimed at letting the young women use what they know best-social media! And they can complete some challenges along the way while spreading the messages from conference and their own testimonies with the world.
It could seem overwhelming to ask them to do all 8 challenges which is why the instructions ask them to only do three. I figure three is a good number and anything above that is a bonus! As always, I think it’s fun to have a little treat or prize for the girls who complete the challenge. Plus, you can follow along with your girls if you’re friends with them on social media.
The youth these days have so many great opportunities to share their love of the Savior and the gospel. And it doesn’t have to be “in your face”. These challenges are designed to allow them to use simple quotes, experiences, and their own feelings and experiences to share the gospel. The hashtags are the usual ones used at conference, though I did add one more (#personalprogresschallenge).
I created this challenge with specific experiences in mind. However, they can easily be adapted to fit other challenges if a young woman has already finished these experiences. It will also work for girls wanting to earn their honor bee or to challenge them to share their testimonies during conference.
The challenge is just one page. They will be completing the experiences through their social media posts. So basically, their social media will act as their journal.
Instagram and Twitter are easier to follow and used more widely by people around the world. My understanding has been that many of them are not on Facebook as much and don’t prefer it. As far as Snapchat goes, it seems to be the most preferred social media app these days. However, it’s harder to follow hashtags and you won’t see posts from people unless you follow them. For this reason, I stated that shares on Snapchat and Facebook would be a bonus and asked that they focus on Instagram and/or Twitter.
These are the value experiences that I used. There are definitely others that would be easy to share and complete for this challenge too!
Faith: Value Experience #2
Divine Nature: Value Experience #6
Individual Worth: Value Experience #1
Knowledge: Value Experience #2
Choice & Accountability: Value Experience #1
Good Works: Value Experience #1
Integrity: Value Experience #3
Virtue: Value Experience #3
Please share how this goes! I would love to look up the hashtags and see the testimonies of our young women around the world! They can reach people and have an impact that we as leaders and adults cannot.
I also have several other Personal Progress items for General Conference too! Check them out here.
